An Extraordinary Canadian performance at the Pan Am Badminton Male & Female Cup 2024 in Brazil! Both teams brought home gold medals and guaranteed a spot at Thomas & Uber Cups in China.
Team Canada goes Undefeated at the Pan Am Male & Female Cup. The Canadians had a perfect performance during the Pan Am. With a very good opening, the male team had two ties and ended with 5-0 wins against Peru and El Salvador. The female squad had the same score against Brazil, playing exceptionally well.
The men's team beat Guatemala 5-0 in the quarterfinals, and the women's team beat El Salvador 5-0. The men's team faced Mexico in the semi-finals, and the women faced Peru. Both teams advanced with 3-0 victories. In the finals, the men's side played against the home team, Brazil and won 3-0. The women beat the United States 3-0 and secured the gold.
At the end of the competition, the National coach, Mike Butler, ChPC, evaluated the performance of both teams, "Today was a truly golden day for Canada. Both teams had to dig deep to secure a win for Canada. I am so proud of both the men's and women's teams. I am also very proud and pleased that we booked our tickets to China for the finals."
Canada achieved the highest ranking on both sides. Badminton Canada proudly congratulates our Canadian players in the competition: Wendy Zhang, Rachel Chan, Talia Ng, Josephine Wu, Catherine Choi, Jackie Dent, Crystal Lai, Eliana Zhang and Jeslyn Chow, on the feminine side. In April, Canada plays the Thomas & Uber Cups in China. The tournament is one of the most important for badminton players. The Canadian achievement is an excellent step in Olympic Qualification. The Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in Paris. GO CANADA!!!!
