“We are very pleased with our selection for Senior National and Next Generation Teams for the 2023-24 season.” said National Head Coach, Mike Butler. “Our Senior National Team is full of athletes vying for spots on the 2024 Canadian Olympic team in Paris this July. The two exceptions are Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai who are on the team with an injury clause and who, if not for injury, would be in the thick of things for Paris. I am also very excited about our Next Gen team who have great potential and should be in the hunt for spots for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.” added Butler “This is a very busy travel year for all these players trying to qualify for either Paris or our Thomas/Uber Cup Teams. I look forward to working with these talented athletes as we, at Badminton Canada, strive to help them secure their spots on these teams.”
The team includes several established athletes, including Michelle Li, who aims to make her fourth Olympic Games, and Brian Yang, who won a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Men’s Singles. The Next Gen Team also features several up-and-coming stars such as Talia Ng, who has demonstrated her talent with multiple international wins last season. Representing Canadian Para-badminton is a group of talented athletes, on of which being Paralympian Olivia Meier (SL4/SU5) who will continue to show the world what she can do on the badminton court.
"I am incredibly proud of the Para-National team for Badminton Canada, who will represent our country in international Para-badminton competitions in the 2024 season. These athletes have shown outstanding dedication and commitment to their sport, and I am confident that they will continue to excel on the international stage. We look forward to supporting them as they make Canada proud," said the Para-badminton national head coach Frank Gaudet.
